To Whom this May Concern:
I am writing this letter to communicate my profound recommendation for Gretchen Ort as a doula.
I found out I was pregnant in September of 2008 and immediately called Gretchen to let her know. From that moment on, she provided unwavering support and advice throughout my pregnancy. Every problem I had was met with great empathy and loving care. She guided us through with a confident, knowledgeable hand from start to finish.
My due date, May 4th of 2009, came and went. We celebrated the day with manicures and preparing for our son who, however late, was soon to come. Three days later, after being coached and empowered by Gretchen, I decided to be induced at Presbyterian hospital. Although the birth of any first child is a completely unknown territory, I felt confident and supported. Gretchen massaged, gave words of encouragement, and coached me with such commitment, I never felt alone. Our son was born on May 8th, 2009 at 7lbs 6oz and measuring 19.5 inches. Gretchen was by out side as he came into the world, wept with happiness with us, and has not left our sides since.
Since he was born, my son has had the support of Gretchen in so many ways. I can always count on her if I have any kind of concern, question, or wondering about my son's development. Now, 8 months later, she is still our cheerleader and mentor.
I highly recommend Gretchen as a doula for an expecting mother. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

To prospective parents:
This letter is in reference to my Doula, Gretchen Ort, who was by my side from start to finish during the birthing of our baby on May 5th, 2009. First, let me say that Gretchen has been a personal friend for about three years. She is so personable; she immediately claimed a spot in our hearts. She has done many creative things for my husband and me, for example face painting for the children in attendance at our wedding, hosting our baby shower, and pregnant belly painting.
When I found out I was pregnant in August 2008, I immediately called Gretchen who had just recently had her third child. Her excitement was on par with mine. There were no boundaries. I was to call her and keep her abreast of my emotions, physical well-being, changes in physique, etc. I was to call at ANY time. If I did not call, I could expect a call from her. The entire pregnancy she kept current with what I was experiencing from month to month and was there to provide answers, thought-provoking questions, or just to listen to me complain.
On May 3rd my labor pains began, and I was on the phone with Gretchen every hour or so. She wanted to come over, however, I insisted that this was not necessary, so she coached me from her home. Gretchen stayed up with me all night. We finally made the trip to the hospital early Monday morning, and Gretchen was immediately at our side.
Gretchen walked the hospital halls with me in an attempt to get the process underway. She knew when to offer suggestions, for example; breathing techniques, labor positions, and my all time favorite, the rice sock. Simply put, I provided to sock, she filled it with rice and heated it in the microwave and used it to massage my lower back. This petite lady spent probable 15 hours kneading my back with high intensity! Not once did I hear complaint in her voice or demeanor. She relieved my husband of bedside duty throughout the hours leading up to delivery, she was a go between for family, and she knew the right questions to ask the nursing staff based off of the childbirth I had described to her. This is what she knows and loves. When the baby arrived, she cried right by our sides.
After the birth of our daughter, I was having trouble breastfeeding, so Gretchen came to our home and played the role of lactation consultant; she even cleaned up my house!
As a friend, she handed down baby clothing, and as a professional, she handed down knowledge and comfort. I cannot express enough gratitude and feel confident recommending her to anyone. You will not only gain peace of mind, but also, a friend.
Please feel free to email me with any questions regarding this experience and congratulations!

Dear Prospective Parent:
I am writing this letter of recommendation for Gretchen Ort, with whole hearted sincerity and all due respect. First, I have to admit I had no idea what a Doula was or the services a Doula could provide for expecting and birthing mothers. I did know that having a natural birth would be the right choice for me, so I was excited to learn that Gretchen could help me achieve just that.
I found out I was pregnant in June of 2009, and connected with Gretchen Ort through a mutual friend of ours in October of 2009. In all honesty, I was hesitant to talk with Gretchen, only because I did not understand how a Doula could possibly benefit me in any way. It was Gretchen who took the initiative to introduce herself to me. She offered to meet up at my house to discuss the benefits of hiring a Doula, the services she would provide throughout my pregnancy, during labor and delivery, and even after child birth. I accepted Gretchen’s offer, and immediately felt comfortable with her the moment we met. After our meeting, I knew hiring Gretchen would be beneficial for both me and my partner, and the start to a new found friendship for us all. Gretchen is everything I could want in Doula. She went above and beyond the call of duty. Not only did Gretchen help me create and stick to a natural birth plan, she provided so much more. After hiring Gretchen, she managed to make an appointment for me to have a sonogram, before my insurance kicked in. She called, emailed, and texted me on a weekly basis and almost daily at the end of my pregnancy. She provided me with the confidence and comfort I needed during my pregnancy, and later during labor, delivery, and after child birth. Gretchen gave me rides to and from all my doctor’s appointments while I was pregnant, not just to see my OBGYN for prenatal care. She also took me to my teenage daughter’s appointments as well! When Gretchen learned that my daughter made a belly cast for me, she gave her paints to color it. To top that off, Gretchen created awesome belly art on my pregnant belly right before the big day. What I appreciate the most is the fact that Gretchen met with me and my partner on numerous occasions throughout my pregnancy, to prepare us for labor and delivery. We learned a great deal of information from Gretchen during these visits with her, stuff I was not aware of even during my first pregnancy.Gretchen made it possible for my teenage daughter to be in the labor and delivery room with us. It was such a great experience! Gretchen was by my side the entire time I was in labor, a total of eleven hours, and stuck around after delivery just to make sure everything was going as planned. I honestly do not know what I would have done without her! After the baby was born, Gretchen came to visit us in the hospital with a gift in hand. Two weeks later, she cleaned my house! She even loaned us clothes for the baby. If we decide to have another child in the future, I am definitely going to hire Gretchen! She is an amazing woman to work with and a friend worth holding onto.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Sophia Orquiz
